Welcome to The Average Cost of Things, where we help you put prices into perspective. On this page, we will examine the amount you might spend for a nose job in the U.S.
There's one reason why you are here, and that's to find out the average cost of a rhinoplasty procedure. So we won't keep you in suspense any longer. Here's the pricing information you came for:
According to the process we have outlined below, the average cost for a nose job in the United States is $6,750. With that number out of the way, let's talk about methodology. Here is how we came up this figure.
How We Measured Rhinoplasty Costs
As always, we tried to start with official and semi-official sources of information. So we visited the website of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (www.plasticsurgery.org). There we found a page entitled "How much will nose surgery cost," but it wasn't very helpful. It stated that the costs for rhinoplasty will vary based on many factors, you should ask plenty of questions, etc. Basically, it said a whole lot of nothing. So we moved on to the second phase of research.
We did find quite a few informational websites related to plastic surgery, and many of them mentioned the average cost of rhinoplasty surgery. But the numbers varied a lot. So we took the ranges offered, determined the median price, and then came up with an average cost across all of the sites.
For example, if a website said that the average procedure costs 3,000 - 8,000, we took the median number of $5,500. We did the same thing for all of the price ranges we encountered. Then we averaged out the median numbers we came up with. That is the number that's bolded and italicized at the top of this page -- $6,750.
What Makes Up the Cost
Despite all of the differences in cost we encountered during our research, one thing was consistent across all of the websites and publications. They all agreed that the total cost of a nose job is usually made up of three parts:
- The surgeon's fee. As you might imagine, this accounts for most of the total cost.
- Anesthesiologist fee. This will generally cost a few hundred dollars to just over a grand.
- Facility fee. Like the fee listed above, this also ranges from $600 to $1,000.
So the bulk of what you pay for a rhinoplasty surgery goes to the surgeon. No surprise there!
You Can Forget About Insurance
Unless you're having rhinoplasty to correct a medical condition, you can probably forget about insurance coverage. If you're having the procedure simply to improve your appearance, then it's considered an elective surgery. You don't need it -- you just want it. In such cases, you can expect to pay the cost of rhinoplasty out of your own pocket.
