Non-Profit Debt Counselors

Good credit is the key to qualifying for a mortgage loan and buying a home. In this section of the website, we offer a variety of tools and tips to help you understand this connection. You are bound to find the answers you need below!

National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC)
This non-profit organization offers a variety of credit counseling and debt help services. Their headquarters is located in Silver Spring, Maryland, but they have member agencies all over the United States. You can do a search on their website to find a debt counselor near you. Their website says that most of their services are "provided at low or no cost to clients." Free debt help is available through NFCC, for certain folks anyway.

Consumer Credit Counseling Services (CCCS)
This organization has been around since 1999. They provide a wide range of counseling services related to credit, debt management and similar topics. They help their clients in person, over the phone, and via the Internet, depending on the circumstances. Among other things, they can help you create a debt-management plan that will put you in a better position to buy a home.

"Christian" Does Not Equal Free Help

A word of warning. When I was doing online research to create this page, I stumbled across a few companies that claimed to be non-profit organizations. At least, that's what their ads said in the Google search results. Specifically, they claimed to offer "Christian debt help" services that were non-profit in nature.

But guess what? I looked up several of these companies and sent a few emails, and I found that they were NOT non-profit organizations. They are profit-driven companies who use words like "Christian" and "non profit" to lure in business. Personally, I find this both deceptive and despicable. You've been warned. If you want free or low-cost debt help from a true non-profit, then do yourself a favor and contact one of the two organizations listed above (NFCC or CCCS).
