Home-Based Internet Marketing Business - Use the Layer System

by Captain Homebody

So, you want to operate a home-based business focused on Internet marketing. Great! It's definitely a nice way to make a living. I know this for a fact, because I've been operating an Internet marketing business from my home for years -- and making a good living at it.

There are so many tips I could share with you on running a home-based Internet marketing business, but in this article I'll focus on one of the most important lessons of all. It's something I like to call the "layer system."

Here's the gist of it:

If you want to be truly successful with your home-based Internet marketing business, you should create layers of success ... by creating multiple layers of revenue. The corporate buzzword for this is "revenue streams." By combining multiple revenue streams, you not only make more money, but you'll also enjoy a more stable income that's less prone to "roller coaster" fluctuations.

Using Layers in Your Internet Marketing Business

Let's look at an example of what I'm talking about here. Let's say you start a home-based business that offers Internet marketing services, with an emphasis on search engine optimization (SEO). Your SEO services are intended to help your clients achieve higher search engine ranking and more web traffic. Naturally. So that's your first layer of revenue -- earning money for your SEO services.

But why stop there?

You can leverage that same skill (SEO) to create additional layers of revenue and success. For example, you could create an informational website about some topic you're passionate about, and then run Google ads on that site to earn revenue (whenever somebody clicks an ad on your site). Search the keyword "Adsense" for more on this topic. This gives you another revenue stream, coming from your ad program.

But why stop there?

You could also create an e-book on some topic that you know a lot about (such as running a home-based business, or maybe some type of Internet marketing topic). Using your SEO and traffic-generation skills, you could drive potential buyers to your e-book website -- and, ideally, sell them your wonderful new product. So now you have a third layer of revenue for your home-based Internet marketing business.

But why stop there?

You could also revisit that informational website you created and find additional ways to earn money from it. For example, you could sign up with Commission Junction (CJ.com) and find advertisers who are selling products or services related to the topic of your informational site. You would earn commission when people visit the advertiser's site, fill out forms, purchase products, etc.

So now you have a fourth layer of revenue for your home-based Internet marketing business. And best of all, you can use your SEO skills to increase the success of each channel ... simply by driving more traffic to your websites.

To recap, your home-based business now enjoys four revenue sources:

  • Your earn money by providing SEO services to your clients
  • You earn ad revenue from your informational website
  • You earn money from your ebook whenever somebody purchases it
  • You earn commissions from the affiliate programs you're involved with

That is the layer system. And that is the key to success as a home-based Internet marketing entrepreneur.

My Home-Based Internet Strategy

I learned long ago that the key to running a profitable Internet marketing business was to have a highly visible web presence — the kind of web presence that produces a steady stream of potential clients. I've finally cracked the "code" on how to do that, and it has taken my home-based Internet marketing business to new levels of success.

And I've outlined my steps to success in my new book, Online Equalizer.
